It is confusing on a lot of newer vehicles. And to make matters worse, they put little symbols on which are supposed to be universally understandable instead of just writing on the cap in plain English........that of course is because these vehicles are shipped around the world these days.
Worst one I have heard of is one of the guys on our volunteer fire dept. took the initiative to fill up the tanker with diesel one day. He was pretty proud of himself until he got about a half mile from the gas station and it started smoking and chugged to a stop. He didn't realize the old tanker had a gas engine.
