I once owned a Co-op E3 (the twin to the Cockshutt 30 and Farmcrest/Gambles models). I don't exactly remember the paint colors of these but they were different. My Co-op model had the same brakes you described. According to my book, it says that the earlier models had this "open" style braking system. On later models they had enclosed systems covering the drum and brakes from the elements. Your red paint might have been from a Farmcrest or Gambles tractor. They were all manufactured by the Cockshutt Company but sold under different names with different colors. Hope this helps. Leon in Mn.
