One thing to watch for if you find a junkyard Delco alternator is that in a few cases what appears to be an internal regulator 10SI is an odd ball that is made to replace the old external regulator alternator. This is the reason that the early 10SI case has both the #1 markings and the R&F markings that the external regulator models use. These odd ball external regulator alternators have the internal regulator replaced with an adapter that has the {II} terminal layout but is on the SIDE of the case like a 10SI. The plug hole has an area notched out to allow that square plug to fit in. These odd balls can be converted to an internal regulator 10SI by tossing out the adapter and replacing it with an internal regulator and diode trio. The later 10SI cases no longer carry the R&F marking and do not have the plug hole notched to allow the square plug to fit. The thing is that when you get a junkyard Delco alternator make sure you look at the regulator plug. [--] internal regulator [II] external regulator.
