As a matter of fact, that's exactly what I do. I like my old dehumidifier because it has a bucket as well as a screw type connector for a hose to drain the unit. I have a short hose connected to it and a 5 gallon container. The 5 gallon container needs about 12 to 15 days to fill up, then I just stock pile it for battery use and other distilled water uses. Some newer units still have a hose connector but they've gone electronic and complicated!!
