And just what makes you think the pipe is soft enough to crimp? When was the last time you tried to crimp an iron water pipe? Even if you did manage to crimp it, what makes you think you could get it tight enough to stop a high pressure leak without it cracking?
A lot of people on this site seems to have an answer to everything, but none of you seem to understand the implications of what you're proposing. It's easy to bash what you don't understand.
Politicians are mostly sociopathic idiots (they have to be sociopathic to be willing to step on all the people they do to get to the top), but there are an awful lot of smart people involved in the oil industry who I'd be willing to bet know a whole lot more than any of you about how to handle a leaking well. Who do you think designs, builds and operates the drilling rigs.
I get tired of people who have no concept of what's involved in solving a problem acting like the people who are working on it don't know anything.
