I live just outside the back stretch of Belmont race track in N.Y. They have 3 of this type tractors. they are used to groom the track when it is sloppy from heavy rain. the contact patch is much lighter than the standard John Deeres that are used when the track is dry. They usually pull large heavy steel plates to seal the track to drive the water out of the dirt. This is also done after the days racing to keep the soft sand cushion from blowing away over night. I usually go to watch the tractors, not the horses.
