Here in North Florida everybody seems to use the big rounds. Although most of the folks around here raise race horses there are several cattle ranches in the county. But it doesn't seem to matter horses or cattle. In fact I've been looking for a square baler(used) for quite a time and haven't been able to find one. The local dealers don't even carry square balers. They stock the round balers and special order squares if anybody ask for one. I guess it just depends on what part of the country you're in.
