I had a very similar problem in 1985 with a new Chevrolet Monte Carlo. My wife said it took off suddenly for no reason. I did not believe her until I drove it myself. Took it to our local GM dealer and they replaced some components and the ecm. They said they were doing 3 to 5 cars a week. There was no charge. And, as I remember this problem did not even make the evening news. Go figure. I guess today we have 24 hour news to fill.
