It actually depends a little on where you are in the world. Local influences of frost line, soil structures, rocks, soil types, etc all come in to play. Here you can buy posts 'off the shelf' as 7.5 or 8 feet. 8 foot posts, which I use, are usually special order if you need more than a few. Some people want a longer corner post than 8 feet but they typically use 4x4 or 6x6 treated squares for that.
Since you have 24 feet and I think a 6 foot post is too short, I'd cut 3 8's. I'd love to have some good power poles to use for posts. So far I've scrounged a few but it takes more than a few to build a fence.
