After you get this straightened out, get yourself a manual. The manual will tell you what oil goes where, how much of it is needed, etc. etc..
The belly pump is a separate unit from the rear end. It uses Hy-Tran fluid or compatible these days. Originally it used SAE 30 engine oil, but since they've invented Hy-Tran, everyone uses that instead.
Really it's not fussy about what oil you use, and the Massey hydraulic fluid you use in your 283 is probably hy-tran compatible anyway.
