You can buy the acid at Home Depot, Lowes etc... look in the pool section. If you have a plastic tank/can to store it can be reused many times. I restore old bikes, have used this method lots of times.

Yes!! This is the only tried and true method. DO NOT put rocks, sand, gravel, or hardware items in your fuel tank. Most tractor fuel tanks do have a baffle to reduce the sloshing when the tank is less than full, and if those foriegn objects get behind that baffle, you will have a very difficult time of getting them back out. IF the foriegn objects DO NOT get behind the baffle, then you have a very large area of the tank that is still full of rust.
Leave the hardware in the hardware store, and leave the gravel and rocks in your driveway.
