That is a good puzzle. It looks well designed for injection molded plastic what with ribs and flange about equal in thickness to the shell itself (guessing). The crack looks like too much load in the vertical direction up against top and the gradual slope of the crack might be due to the internal thread that had a too sharp of a thread root radius, again too much load due to over tightening or wrong seal (if any). Curious about the cold flow of the the nubs on the outer filter case..do not look like a spanner load, looks like a downward beating of something or a prying tool has been used. Everyone is an expert on this board and that is my 2 cents worth. : ) Leo
