I live in Southern Minnesota. I've been doing "my own thing" (fixing, cleaning, and painting) on my JD 50, a little at a time over the last 10 years, as money and time are available, and just recently figured what I've spent on just parts, supplies and special tools and I have over $3000 invested plus the $1000 I spent on the tractor (with a front end loader attached) and I know I would never be able to sell it for $4000 and even at $4000, I'd be giving my labor for free. So if you factor in what the labor charge is for the professional restorers, it's easy to see that the total spent on a complete restoration can go significantly into 5 figures and few people are willing to spend that money for an acreage or hobby tractor.
