Depending on what you think you will use it on, an elecric winch may be fine. They connect direct to the battery, so really don't affect any old wiring. I put one on the front of my neighbors Farmall BN when I converted it to 12V. Works fine, he uses it to pull wood out of the brush when he cuts firewood. It will pull a pretty good sized tree trunk or limb. Pulled himself out when he got stuck a couple of times too. Very handy.
