When I worked for Production Credit Assn. about 35 years ago, a fellow nearing retirement took the vacation of a lifetime- 5 weeks in Holland, tracing his roots and visiting his relatives.
The custom at PCA was to throw all the files that needed attention (renewals, follow-ups, etc.) on the vacationer's desk, and then have a big laugh when he came back and saw the pile. Right after Fred left, boss called us all in and said we were going to split up his renewals and do them while he was gone, and when he got back, there would be NOTHING on his desk.
And that's what we did. When he got back, we were expecting a big sigh of relief from him, but instead, he observed that it might have been good to tell him about this before he left, so he wouldn't have worried for half his vacation about all the work he'd have to do when he returned.
