I guess the answer is how much money do you want to spend. Have worked on dozens of 188D engines. Possible problems cranking speed, injector pump, injectors, timing, compression,etc. The last 2000 hours I used my 1845; have given it one shot of starting fluid from ether assist kit that came with it. I realize the risk, but the odds are now in my favor. Usually keep one or two engines around. They are an easy swap.
