Tractor Pull tractors - are these things hot-rodded ???

I've seen a few tractor pulls, nothing really too much on the scale that it is obviously done elsewhere, but I often wondered how much "hot rodding" is done to those engines? I mean, are we talking about oversized pistons, special carburetion, balancing crankshafts, etc.? I also suppose that wheels and tire tricks are also involved. And I would guess that some fellas must sink a lot of dollars into their tractors.
