I've found with lots of contact with LEO that many of them don't know many of the laws. They also aren't always up to date on changes to the laws. Asking a trooper is far down on the list of places I go to check laws as they are written. I start with the states legislature website and then contact the state prosecutor and then onto the county and city prosecutors.
