I'll ad that the rating is just a generalization. If it says 12v and indicates the need for a ballast resistor, it will probably work OK on 6v without a resistor. That is not to say it is a 6v unit, it is just within the range of primary winding resistance that works on 12 w/resistor, or 6 W/O. There are 6v coils for use with ballast resistors!!! they will not work W/O resistor on 6V, and will not work on 12v Without overheating, Jim
