I was doing a bid for a pole barn a few years ago in an area with similar snow/wind loads that you're talking about. I took the plans to an engineer to spec out pole size and hole size. He came back with 6x12 poles, 36" diamater holes, 9' DEEP! I estimated nearly $5000 just to have the holes drilled! I told him he was crazy and gave him his spec's back. Took the plans to another engineer who spec'd 6x8" poles, 24" dia holes, 5' deep. That all seemed reasonable. And was about the same as all the other buildings I've done.
