Dan-IA said: (quoted from post at 18:02:07 04/26/10) There"s a crank hole on the front of my Farmall 560 diesel. I"ve never seen a crank for it. It badly needs an overhaul but until I get it done I want to know other ways to start it.

It takes another tractor to pull-start it. I have glow plugs and a block heater and Dad says if I plug it in an hour then use glow plugs and a charger to help spin the starter, eventually it"ll start - but i think that"s a lot of work for the starter.

What about a big belt pulley like from a belly mower and an electric motor on the drawbar and a long v-belt? Can a 2HP electric motor spin it enough to get it going?

I moved the tractor to my acreage and don"t have a second man to ride it and let out the clutch or another tactor to pul it and my little S10 pickups aren"t big enough to pull it so..

Any ideas? Thanks!

In addition to 6 good glow plugs and a good electrical system so they can draw enough current to heat up you need to spin her over fast...

If it won't spin quickly with the current starter and battery setup then you need to hook 2 GOOD 12V batteries in parallel... This will maintain 12V but will give you the cold cranking capacity of both batteries added together. #0 or #1 battery cables are a must.

Make sure the starter is in proper working order also.

Hold those glow plugs on for a minute then let off the button and crank for 15 - 20 seconds or so... If it goes good.. if not hang onto those glow plugs for another minute and repeat...

If none of that works you can always resort to starting fluid but if you do... Under no circumstance should you so much as touch the glow plug button...

Going to run you a grand minimum for parts to major it and do the head... Labor is extra...
