I've been involved in various forms of auto racing for a few years now. The people I know who do run synthetic oils almost always break in the engine on something like Valvoline, and then switch to synthetic. The opinion and experience being that break in doesn't go as well when running synthetic. The warning about voiding warranty is significant. While all synethic engine oils will meet the API index, don't deviate from the viscosity requirements specified by the vehicle manufacturer. GM has been voiding warranties on people that do not run their specified viscosity of 5w-30. So trying to take advantage of the synthetics better properties and run say a 5w-50, the warranty is gone for internal engine failures.
