We always seem to get some really good haying weather the week before Memorial Day. Then the weather changes and seems to not be so good until the end of June. I always try to make the most dent in the first cutting about then.
We've finally fed out the last of the rounds we bought last fall. The hay we baled was gone in March. I've been taking it easy on the pastures since up until this last weekend the spring was very dry. Have been holding back on setting some of the animals like the sheep out. Now we're well supplied with rain and more on the way, so I'll get all the animals out of the hayshed this week. I sure look forward to seeing the hay supply grow rather than shrink!
Our PT-10 cracked the metal roller toward the end of the season last year, so it is now on its way to China (good thing scrap prices were up when I took it in). We replaced it with an IH 990 mower conditioner. So I'll be going from a 10' cut to a 7' cut. This might not work too bad as I cut some odd shaped fields and also have picked up a bunch of haying fields that require time on the road.
