Ok, a lot of people probably won't agree with this, but it WORKED for me, so here goes. I had an old riding mower, and it used almost as much oil as gas. After it got good and warmed up, and had used some oil, I topped it off with 90w gear lube. It still burned oil, but at a much slower rate. This worked for 2 years until overhaul. Make sure the engines warm first! I read somewhere, that 90w gear lube is like 50w motor oil, so that should work to. Just make sure something thin is in there at startup, then when its warm, switch to something thick. Good luck!
