My lowline angus heifers are starting to calve, so I got a few pictures of the first two, both heifers. They sure do calve easily. Checked the one heifer on Sat. morning and she was walking around with her tail up, so I figured it would be soon. Went back to the pasture 20 minutes later and she was licking the calf to get it on it's feet.
Had to put the first heifer in the chute to get her to nurse the calf the first time, then all was OK after that. The second heifer was in the paddock with the cow & calf for day before calving, so she got caught on sooner, and nursed within the first 1/2 hour. Hope all goes as smoothly with the next three heifers. First calf was 55 lbs. Didn't weigh the 2nd one, but she's a little smaller, since she's from a smaller heifer.
The yearling bull didn't waste any time getting to work. Turned him out last July planning for May 1 calving. They say lowlines can go 10 days early, and the 1st calf was right there.
