I used assembly lube for my engine. A tube of it was something like $5 at the auto parts store. There is enough in the tube to do about a half dozen 4 cylinder engines. Basically, it's a thin, white grease. Sticks good, lubes good, and won't run and dry out when you take a year to finish the rebuild.
