the south had the first income tax and the first conscription draft. And, of all the people on both sides who were drafted, a full 47% dodged, and of the people who did go, 51% deserted. The point is this, it's getting pretty tough to find someone who is actually descended from a civil war era male who didn't dodge the draft or desert the army.
