James, rule out the lower radiator hose collapsing by revving up the engine and watching the lower hose. Then do the radiator trick. On a vertical flow radiator (radiator tubes run up and down) you can fill the radiator clear up to the top of the filler neck. Rev up the engine. If the radiator is good the coolant level will drop a little in the tank. If the radiator is bad (clogged or lower hose collapsing), the coolant level will rise up and overflow the filler neck. This simple test will rule out a radiator. Your damaged filler neck not allowing pressure build in the cooling system won't cause your problem unless you are allowing the coolant to become low.
