Very easy to screw up, even by a pump-repair person who patched up your pump (I doubt it was really rebuilt).
I assume the shop installed the driveshaft and seals and not you? Even when a new bronze drive-end bushing was installed, it's very easy to flip over one umbrella seal when installing and not realize it. Not until the crankcase starts filling with diesel fuel. I've messed up a few myself.
But, if your pump previously failed due to a shattered plastic ring - and if some chunks of plastic still remain in your return lines - the pump housing will over-pressurize and push fuel into the crankcase.
