: I have a Acer pentium lap top, I think it has 16 meg. of ram, sometimes when I come to this site, I can move around with reasonable speed, but like today, forget it. Is it my carrier, my computer, or this site? I would also like to buy as cheap a computer for home use, (internet only) that would allow me to surf faster. (I connected at 26,400 today) Can someone help?
: Thanks, Bonehead

I'm running a 586-133, with 16 meg of ram and a 33.6 modem with a 2.1 gig hard drive. I also have the same problem of the site being quick to get around one time and slower than J.D. pulling a wagon uphill the next. I take computer courses part-time and according to one of my teachers the problem is a combination of the server being busy, and the site being a busy spot. If you buy a computer buy the right one for the job the first time, just like you would a tractor. I bought mine used 3 years ago and now the only original things left is the monitor, keyboard and tower. If you have kids consider if they will be using it or not, you need a machine that will run different programs and games fast enough to work right,(cpu speed), a hard drive big enough to hold all those programs, games, 2.1 gig mim. As far as modem goes it depends on your phone lines, at least here in Canada it does. I live in the country and connect at 115,200bps but dependig if the lines have been upgraded it is hard to say what I'm really going through at. As far as one of the replys you recived myself and my daughter have enjoyed alot of time on the computer together at night, playing games or on the net looking up information for school projects, it kills time on those cold snowy nights and is better than just sitting around watching T.V.. There is a time to work and a time to play. The best advice I could give would be vist a few computer stores and ask a lot of questions and be carefull about buying from discount places if something goes wrong with a piece halfway through a 1 year warrenty it's nice to be able to get it fixed, not the runaround, if the store is still in business, ask around to find a store with a good rep. and sells good equipment not seconds and thirds, they may be cheap but that doesn't mean good, I found out the hard and expensive way, I didn't ask enough questions and I didn't know enough about computers at the time.
