A "49" B should have distributer and external coil. I have had trouble with the votage being pulled down by the starter and then starting hard. Would roll start easy. This is really a problem on 6 volt systems. Check the voltage at the coil during cranking. Also make sure you have a 6 volt coil. If it is a magneto. Is the inpulse snaping hard??? If it does not snap hard then it will start hard. Also "short" tipped spark plugs won't fire as well either. These two bangers run better with long tipped plugs.
