I think a D145 with bad engine around here wouldnt even bring a 1000, unless the tires were real good. My uncle and also a neighbor have a 145's they still use for dozer work and both have 555 v8's in them. There also use to be one in the area that had an 855 put in it, but the frame was lengthend to make it work. I can't help you with the overhaul of the v8, but would suggest finding one out of the salvage yard. They usually come with a one month warranty, if its going to fly apart it will usually do it right away. Once the radiator is out of the way there isnt much holding the engines in. I was at a sale a few years back and the guy had six of them, big machines for there time.
