I don't know who made the first PTO but I believe that the first "live" PTO that was offered on a mass-produced tractor was the Canadian-made Cockshutt 30. A fellow by the name of McRae (I think that was his name) developed it, he was an engineer that worked for Cockshutt in Eastern Canada. He supposedly developed the technology to snake the power through the transmission housing while the clutch on the tractor was disengaged. He lived to a ripe old age and he died just a few years ago. The Canadian Post Office issued a series of postal stamps on signifigant Canadian inventions along transportation, industrial, and agricultural lines a number of years ago and the Cockshutt 30 stamp was one of the series. I have one of those stamps as well as one of the tractors. Maybe someone else will disagree with this information but that's what I've read anyways.
