Fasteners are ruined with heat, corrosion,age, vibration and over torquing. The old bolts have seen enough of those factors to make new fasteners the logical choice. There so many people willing to try yet another head gasket but not a new set of studs or bolts??? The block threads of course should be cleaned with a bottoming tap. And hardened flat washers used on the head to prevent galling.
