I had the same problem with an old John Deer. The Piston rings were stuck from setting a long time. I used a mopar penetrating oil with graphite. Pushing it in gear can cause more damage. I sprayed some in the plug holes every day and tried to move the crank by hand or pry bar. After a couple of days I was able to move it A 1/4" . I kept working it both ways until I got it to go a full turn. then I started it. It run fine. I got lucky;didn't have to pull the head.
