: : I have a Acer pentium lap top, I think it has 16 meg. of ram, sometimes when I come to this site, I can move around with reasonable speed, but like today, forget it. Is it my carrier, my computer, or this site? I would also like to buy as cheap a computer for home use, (internet only) that would allow me to surf faster. (I connected at 26,400 today) Can someone help?
: : Thanks, Bonehead

: Your first question concerning the speed of your access is probably related to your service provider. If one time it is fast and the next time it is slow, it obviously is not your computer, since it proved itself to be able to move fast ( I hope that made sense). The other problem; I assume you do not have a high speed dedicated line for your access. If this is true line noise can cause the modems to communicate at slower speeds. To put it another way; if the computer/modem normally works at 28800bps but the phones are busy or staticky the will communicate at the next best speed; likley 24000bps. Also remember that the server at this site can only handle so much. If everyone connects at the same time it will be slow.

: The problem with a cheap computer is that it is outdated or very soon to be outdated. We no longer purchase anything for Internet use that is less than 32mb of RAM, less than 2 gb hard drive, less than a Pentium 2, or less than 150 Mhz. Stay away from CD's; they will soon be gone. We buy nothing having to do with them any longer. Search the WEB for reconditioned computers. There are a couple of sites that offer refurbished or repossessed equipment at incredibly low prices. (A friend picked up a computer near to the specs I described for $400). When I get the address I'll mail it.

: Thankfully I am in a position where I use a computer at work so I do not have to buy one, and if it were up to me I wouldn't. With all the work I do on one of these and all the WEB browsing this is the only worthwhile site that I continually return to. I have serious doubts about these things and what they do to us and our family. Don't forget to spend time with those boys. I really enjoyed the sequence of messages that transpired from the dream farm, but you only get there by doing, not browsing. I know people who watch Oprah trying to tell people how to be successful, all the while failing to realize that successful people do not sit around watching daytime TV. My inadequate computer at home prohibits me from wasting my time on the WEB; its my job that requires it. Sorry if I sound like I'm lecturing (I am a part-time teacher), but people expect these things to save the world, when only conscientious people with a dream, like you can do that.

:::::Thanks Jim, but just for the record, its Indian Guy that has the dream and the boys. I couldn't even begin to write a story that well. Hope you will still send me the address, though.
By the way, it happened again today, I got to the site, read a few posts, every thing started slowing down, then I was disconnected and couldn't reconnect untill I rebooted. What the heck is going on? Bonehead
