The tenant enrolled nearly everything. At least the stuff I own that he farms has a high basis. Higher than the county average which is already pretty high. Consequently better chance it will pay out. I believe he mentioned $45/acre for 2009 crop year, but this could be wrong. I farm the poorer quality ground which doesn't have nearly as high basis and really isn't that many acres, so concluded it wasn't worth the effort. So if you have a high basis, variable weather that has demonstrated a considerable effect on yields, and enough acres to justify the hassle, I would probably enroll.
