The guy from my Vandal post had some sweet corn about 16 inches tall.
He had dug pits about 4ft deep, filled them half full of fresh horse manure and whatever he cleaned up from a dozen chickens, covered it with some kind of fabric, filled it with seeded pots and covered the top with a couple layers of plastic. When it was 10 degrees outside, that pit was over 80 degrees.
