A lot depends on how good or bad you are at fabing things. A kit will cost you 2 or 3 times what the parts along will cost if you buy them from a locla parts store but if you do not know how to mount and wire then that savings may not be any help. Me I buy an alternator for say a 1980 Chev pick up no power any thing. Cost around $45 plus a $10 core. A battery I make the mounting bracket and then use a Radio shack 276-1661 diode. But I have wired up 30 plus of them so I can almost do it in my sleep
