If you need to know anything about a 706 or a 806 and want the straight scoop Ask me as believe me when i tell you i know them tractors from one end to the other and have had EVERY NUT AND BOLT out of them at one time or the other . And what the others have said is a lot of bull ship . Most of the problems with them DOES come from neglect and miss use . As for the T/A's yea they do fail BUT here again it is from misuse and being out of adjustment . Shifter problems , here again letting the clutch and dump valve and trans brake get out of adjustment makes for hard shifting and not wanting to come out of gear so ya start to yank and tug on it and inturn causes undo wear and also breaks stuff inside , so here again it is NOT THE fault of the tractor it is from neglect . Myself i have farmed with them and lost count of the ones that i have bought and resold . My two closest friends both have 706 GASSERS that i sold them some 18 years ago and still use them everyday . I am running a But ugly 806 D narrow ft. Fast hitch with 9000 hrs and it shifts fine NOW but it did not when i got it as it was out of adjustment . as to repair cost that depends on who does it as i have heard the storys of the 4000 dollar T/A job and all i can say is that someone got reamed . On a 706 or 806 with out cab about a grand for all the pieces and parts and about 21-22 hours if you drag your feet and if you bust your donkey it can be done and done wright in 16
