I have a 486Dx 2-66 with 1.8G drive and 24 Mb of
memory and a 33.6 modem. This machine suites me
just fine however I defrag often and keep at least
10% of the hard drive free for the windows swap file.
I have also found that it is wise to restart the
computer cold if you have been using wordperfect or
other memory hog programs. I also use Pentium 166
MMX machines at work through a direct link to internet
and see little difference in speed. Time of day
makes a big difference though. Don't rush off to
spend a fortune on a computer until you have had a
chance to see just how much it will help your speed
from your area.
: I have a Acer pentium lap top, I think it has 16 meg. of ram, sometimes when I come to this site, I can move around with reasonable speed, but like today, forget it. Is it my carrier, my computer, or this site? I would also like to buy as cheap a computer for home use, (internet only) that would allow me to surf faster. (I connected at 26,400 today) Can someone help?
