Cut it off, won't hurt.. I had to cut about 6" off of my d-17 allis so it'd fit under my shop door.. (WHO would ever put higher than a 7' door in a barn? We don't farm er anything said dad.. 10 years later he wishes we'd have built it higher).. I didn't notice it was any louder, but ya the fumes now kinda blow in my face.. I made a extension as said for in field, but just using the loader around the farm it don't bother me much.
As for removing it.. It's your tractor.. if it's like my 33 Massey, the clamp is below the hood and it'd make it a pain to remove the muffler to load/unload, so I understand your plan.. No matter what ya do, somewhere someone will want to criticize what you do, so do what makes you happy.
