I also had the same problem with an old ford that was from the late '50's I borrowed from my cousin when I first moved here. I had been setting for years and smoked like crazy idling or running. I used regular Pennzoil 10w-40 and gradually it cleared up and stopped smoking (maybe after 10 hrs of running). The rings could be stuck to the piston and just needs a little running but not to hard. Sounds like a good idea to buy the rislone and add it now and run it some and changed the oil. Going to a higher grade like 15-40, or 20w-50 might help also if it is used in high heat and don't stop smoking after a while. If not probably needs new valve seals or rings. Usually if it is the valve seals, it smokes bad at start up. Hope this helps.
