Who ever was telling him that might have meant to put salt on the hay in the barn. Sprinkle some on each layer to aid in drying and prevent the barn from burning down. It does work & the animals eat it really well also. It draws the moisture out of the hay & prevents heat & mold. There was a thread on here I believe yesterday or the day before.
