: I did a little shade tree tune up and now my 12 volt converted 9N gets no fire to the plugs. I used a Tisco #309786 tune up kit (plugs, points, condenser, rotor, gaskets) and also replaced the cap and plug wires.
: Expecting the grey beauty to fire right up, imagine my disappointment. Don't know what I did wrong but have a few questions in thet direction.
: 1. If the condenser is for 6 volt (is that possible) would that result in no fire.
: 2. What is the firing order? I marked the wires but may have screwed up. My 14 month old son was "helping" me and my wife was offering advice as well. I have it wired 1234 front to back.
: Any suggestions would be very helpful.

Bill, I worked on a front mount distributor that wouldn't spark after a new coil, cap, points, etc., had been installed by a "mechanic". Besides the plug wires being badly shuffled, the main problem was the little spiral spring on the bottom of the coil wasn't positioned properly (can't remember what the spring set against, maybe a screw head). It was a little difficult, but after repositioning it correctly and double checking the point gap, we had fire. Also, the plug wires had been crossed left-to-right and top-to-bottom!
Do you have power to the coil? If not, you might try a jumper wire from the hot side of the battery to the coil terminal. Crank the engine WITH THE PLUG WIRES DISCONNECTED at the plugs. Otherwise, the engine might start! Then the only way to shut it off is to disconnect the jumper wire. NOT SAFE on a running engine! Crank the engine and check for spark. If spark occurs the problem is in the power supply to the coil. Could be wiring, connections,or a bad resistor. Cheers!
