leaking battery

Is there any way to fix a leaky battery other than replcing it, it is leakin around the terminal post, just noticed it tonite. The worst thing is i have a short some where and need to remove neg cable so the battery dont drain, and its this particule post. Ive seen the effect of a spark and battery acid first hand and know the detail, was lucky on that one. any suggetion other than makin a trip to Napa?
