When we were restoring the 1937 gold leaf D John Deere, my nervous Father (who normally does the decal work) asked me to do the D. The decals that we use was a 3 ply type. It had a bottom sheet, then the actual letters, and a clear top. We first went and bought some good quality masking tape. We used the tape to mark center lines etc, for the decal, and to hold the top of the decal in location. Once the decal was in location we would raise the bottom of the decal up and grab ahold of the top of the bottom sheet and start pulling down very slowly and very gently. At the same time making sure the decal was sticking to the paint. The key is to take your time. If you would like to see pics of the gold D and other tractors in our stables, head to my web site. Good luck!
