I run a 5 foot Howard Rotovator on my 40 hp tractor and it runs great on level sandy soil. I agree with comments about using it on sod, you'll need several passes to do a good job. My prefered approach is to moldboard plow my garden first, then a few days later do two passes with the rotovator. It's amazing how the rocks can bend and twist the heavy duty tines. So go slow in rocks. You'll also need a PAIR of strong sway bars for better control on hillsides. I used to use only a single sway bar but the heavy rotovator easily twists it on a hillside. I get my replacement tines from the NH dealer.
