i have an 826 hydro. the german diesel is ok but not way better than a US made engine, as some people would claim. injection pumps are hard to find and/or expensive. i had the hydro rebuilt by hoober's- i took it out and to them, and they charged me under $2400 which i didn't think was too bad. its also possible your hydro might pass the stall test and be ok. the hydro will work at start-up but might be sluggish at 20 above until it warms up. as noted below, we let the hydro run 5 minutes with the range lever in neutral when its super cold. for harvest work, you can't beat a hydro.
