I am still in fairly high dairy area, with in 10 miles of me there are better than a dozen. Within 15 miles if me there are 2 Hollanders milking more than 2000 head at each location. I am 2 miles from Ottawa county, the second highest dairy county in Michigan. The highest is the county directly north of Lansing. Where I grew up along Lake Michigan, we had a coop that was started back in the early 70s that we formed to haul our own milk. When I started milking in 93 there were 23 dairies in the coop and we were turning away new entrants. The coop disbanded about 5 years ago and there are now 6 dairies left of the 23. We actually had 5 family farms start back up milking in the 90's but only one of those is in operation today.
